THE MAYTAG FRUIT JAR ENGINE
This is the rarest Maytag engine of them all. It used a Mason quart jar for the fuel tank. It was produced around 1919 and was only in production a short time. As you may have guessed the glass jar was not the best choice for a fuel tank. They often broke while the engine was running. It is still a mystery why this Maytag engine was designed with a Mason jar for a gas tank. My own thoughts on this is that the women of the day were used to doing a lot of canning of food with glass jars. Now, if the women had to use the new clothes washer maybe the engineers thought that they would identify with the Mason jar doing the wash as they did with it in the kitchen. Just my thought.

We are always on the lookout for one of these little engines. We would like to have one to complete our collection of Maytag's. If you ever run across one for sale please Email us with the information.

We are also searching for a wood tub Maytag washer. If you have any information on one for sale please Email me.
